Luc Besson, known for his roster of iconic films such as The Fifth Element, La Femme Nikita and Léon, has recently confirmed that Rihanna has signed on to his next sci-fi project, Valerian. The director announced via Instagram that one of music’s most powerful women has been slated for a “big part” in the new feature. RiRi will star alongside some of cinema’s most talented young names, including Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne. Based on a bestselling sci-fi graphic novel series, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets will follow a time-traveling agent (portrayed by DeHaan) from the future, accompanied by his red-haired accomplice Laureline (Delevingne). Rihanna’s role in the film has not yet been confirmed but with production on the film set to start at the end of this year, we hope to see more details revealed soon. Valerian is slated for a release date of July 21, 2017.
