Godzilla to Square off Against King Kong on the Big Screen Once Again
Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. announce a ‘Godzilla’ sequel and ‘Godzilla vs. Kong.’

From Marvel to DC, so-called “cinematic universes” are all the rage these days. Now, thanks to the success of last year’s Godzilla reboot, you can add both Godzilla and King Kong to the list — Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. have announced that the two iconic monsters will be coming together in a shared franchise of their own. The towering, all-powerful monsters will be brought together “in an ecosystem of other giant super-species, both classic and new” as Monarch — the organization that discovered Godzilla in the 2014 — expands its mission across multiple films.
Kong: Skull Island — which starts production October 19 and stars Tom Hiddleston and Samuel L. Jackson alongside Brie Larson, John Goodman, Tian Jing, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, John Ortiz, Shea Whigham and Toby Kebbell — is due out March 10, 2017 and will mark the second installment of the shared cinematic universe while a Gareth Edwards-directed Godzilla sequel will follow on June 8, 2018. Finally, Godzilla vs. Kong will premiere in 2020.
