Rap Genius Has Changed its Name to 'Genius' and Received $40 Million in Funding

Rap Genius may be your go-to site for annotations on hip-hop lyrics, but it looks like the site is planning to be so much more, as it has today officially changed its name from “Rap Genius” to “Genius.” Having recently expanded to offer developments such as Poetry Genius, Rock Genius and more, the name change allows the site free rein to expand to “literature, the Bible, political speeches, legal text” and more. In addition, “Genius” has obtained $40 million in private funding to be used towards the expansion of their services, as the site is not only expanding beyond annotation of lyrics to other texts, but also plan to offer other websites an option to embed Genius’s annotations on to their own platforms.
