London producer Impey probably isn’t on your radar yet, but if you like anything that sounds remotely close to grime music, it’s necessary you rummage through his Soundcloud. Our reasoning: his intense new production “Loudpack.” On “Loudpack,” Impey employs a deftly-woven combination of space and synths to build cinematic levels of suspense throughout the track, while maintaining the sonic physicality high-octane grime does best. When the bass’ boom, thundering claps and skittering drums are absent, it’s like being suspended from a high-altitude cliff. When the bass and beat swing back in succession, it’s like being hammered by a battering ram. These are some seriously high-quality sounds from a talented upstart, and this fits well as another small slice of the UK’s growing grime & bass music renaissance.
