We last caught up with Rutger Termohlen when he teamed up with Onno Poiesz, TelmoMiel and Karski to produce a one of a kind Pen & Paper feature. In this segment we look to the tools needed for the Dutch artist to pursuit his craft. As a pictorial storyteller, Termohlen’s unique aesthetics stem from his early tenure as a graffiti artist alongside his time as an art student. Building on the opposites of chaos and peace, the painter draws heavily on society as key motif, often using animals as a metaphor for people in his abstract renditions. For his Essentials, Termohlen presents his sketchbook alongside a nature book which keeps him inspired. Fine art accessories — paint brush and Latex brush — are paired next to markers, spray cans and other stationeries. We also see Termohlen’s fruits of choice, keeping mandarins and avocados close in each painting session. Head to Rutger Termohlen’s Tumblr for more on his work.
