Coming this fall from Jordan Brand is the 29th installment of the flagship Air Jordan franchise: the Air Jordan XX9. Building on the brand’s storied history of pioneering innovation and premium craftsmanship, the XX9 boasts two revolutionary technologies: an evolution of the Air Jordan XX8‘s Flight Plate and the brand’s first-ever performance-woven upper. Providing structure, support, comfort and abrasion resistance, the brand new upper takes cues from Italian craftsmanship and is created with state-of-the-art machinery that can combine all of these elements into a single lightweight layer. Strategically-placed Flight Web tunnels and flexible panels give the shoe its structure as Flight Web straps integrate with the laces to offer superior midfoot lockdown. Additionally, a double-lasted heel dampens impact while articulated padding in the collar helps prevent slippage and further adds to the unparalleled comfort of the shoe.
Coupled with the XX9’s intricately woven upper is the newest iteration of the Flight Plate. Designed to harness “the energy of every step for explosive liftoff and optimal energy return,” the Flight Plate employs Nike Zoom Air units in both the forefoot and heel in conjunction with a Pebax® moderator plate – a thermoplastic elastomer that manages the compression and deflection of the Zoom units for optimal performance. New to the Flight Plate design is a tendril linking the forefoot and heel, thus providing a smoother heel-to-toe transition.
The Air Jordan XX9 launches this September in two colorways: Black/White-Gym Red and Black/Team Orange-Dark Grey. Stay tuned for additional colorways of the XX9 in the months ahead and catch designer Tinker Hatfield‘s thoughts on the brand new Air Jordan below.
