It’s not often that we associate the terms “artisanally-crafted” and “patina” with sneakers. Ryo Kashiwazaki‘s leather goods label Hender Scheme, however, is a rare exception to the rule. Based in Tokyo, the brand creates sneakers and accessories with the kind of care and expertise usually reserved for more “serious” footwear. Hender Scheme’s Hommage Collection, in particular, has been causing quite a stir with its high-end takes on classic sneaker silhouettes, including designs like Manual Industrial Products 08 Runner. A premium reinvention of New Balance‘s classic running shoes, each pair is handmade in Japan from 100% raw, undyed leather, and features leather laces, handstamped logos and natural leather uppers that will only get better with age. And, while we don’t recommend them for use at the gym, the shoe’s careful construction and replaceable soles should provide more than a few years of casual wear. Hender Scheme’s Manual Industrial Products O8 Runner is now available at the HYPEBEAST Store.
