As far as copyright infringement goes, it seems there is always ongoing battles despite the likelihood or extreme blasphemy each case presents. Today, Billboard reports that the lawsuit filed last year against JAY Z has been dismissed by New York Federal Judge Lewis Caplan, all over the use of the word “Oh.” The sample, which appears on JAY Z’s song “Run This Town,” was claimed to infringe upon Eddie Bo’s 1969 song “Hook & Sling.” The accuser, TufAmerica, also sued Kanye West for his use of the sample on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Caplan ruled that “the court need not decide whether the word ‘Oh,‘ as it appears in the Composition, is protectable.” Credible infringement or opportune money grab? You decide.
