Veteran producer Leila samples Missy Elliot’s 1999 song, “Checkin’ For You” for her latest effort, “Bring It (ON).” Released following FADER‘s recent roundtable piece on female producers, the song is billed as a “little response to the and why nots concerning the lack of female producers in music.” Like her past work for Warp and XL, it’s a forward-thinking, futuristic, and experimental piece. With its lack of traditional percussion and grooves, it’s definitely not your run-of-the-mill, monotonous club cut, either. You can check out “Bring It (ON)” above.
