J Dilla's Uncle to Open Detroit Donut Shop
While every bit of music from the vault of the late and great J Dilla is appreciated, it appears

While every bit of music from the vault of the late and great J Dilla is appreciated, it appears that the legendary Detroit producer is being honored with a special posthumous dedication project. According to The Detroit News, Dilla’s uncle Herman Hayes plans to open a Detroit donut shop called Dilla’s Delights in the name of his passed nephew.
“He was on his deathbed making Donuts, and I felt like that was partly a tribute to me, I felt I should honor that and respect that and give back to him. I want to honor my nephew in the right way, and this is a good way to do it,” Hayes says. “Not by putting out another album, but putting a sustainable business with his name on it that I plan on being in Detroit long after I’m gone. It’s just what I can give back to him for giving us that music.”
Hayes, a former baker at Avalon and used to bring Dilla donuts as a child, plans to use all organic ingredients to create 20 different donuts with names inspired by Dilla’s life and work. Expect items like the Conant Gardens Glaze, Fantastic Fritters and McNasty Macaroons on the menu. In addition, there will be a shop’s soundtrack that is set to include vinyl by Dilla and the artists he sampled. One more reason to visit Detroit.
