Lauryn Hill reported to federal prison on Monday to begin a three-month sentence for failing to pay federal income taxes. Pleading guilty last year to three counts of failing to file tax returns on more than $1.8 million from 2005 to 2007, the Grammy-winning artist was sentenced to three months in federal prison, which she’ll serve at a low security female facility in Danbury, Connecticut. According to TMZ, Ms. Hill will be among the general population, not in isolation. Earlier this year, she signed with Sony Music in order to improve her financial situation and keep her out of jail. However, as her legal troubles increased, she released a statement addressing her financial troubles but also racism and corruption in the U.S. In addition, she released a song called “Neurotic Society” that mentions negative facets of the music industry as well as a “toxic society.”
