Though Milan is frequently considered one of the world’s capitals of fashion, it’s not without an acute sense of humor regarding it. Enter Italian label Frankie Morello, who has just unveiled their new collection for Spring/Summer 2014. Founders and lead designers Maurizio Modica and Pierfrancesco Gigliotti aimed to explore the parallels between the food industry and fashion in their latest range, with the assortment of shirts, blazers and trousers all adorned with unique, immensely humorous references to cheeseburgers, sushi and even fruit salads. While this may at first seem a farce, the collection is a sartorial home run, featuring tastefully thin collars on shirts, crisply cut lapels, and subtle nods to sailing culture within the color palette. This well-executed range is the result of painstaking thought and wittiness, which as the designers have noted, perhaps might be missing in other things we take in.
