Rock music and high fashion are very different realms of expression, yet as one party tends to admire the other, the two are frequently mixed. Such is the case in Saint Laurent‘s new Music Project, per creative director Hedi Slimane‘s re-branded vision for the company (formerly, Yves Saint Laurent). As a part of his vision, Slimane photographed rock royalty such as Kim Gordon (of Sonic Youth), Courtney Love, Ariel Pink and Marilyn Manson, taking stoic portraits of each legend to promote the brand in a noticeably different light. While a departure from the tone set by a runway, these gritty portraits do well to express a different story for a brand reinventing itself.
