On the surface, the trip seems fairly harmless, but remember, Cuba is a communist country. And what many may not know is that a long-term embargo has long been placed on visits to Cuba, so that American tourists must have special U.S. government permission to go. Did Jay-Z and Beyoncé receive this so-called pass to enjoy their fifth wedding anniversary over there? That has yet to be disclosed, but the trip is certainly drawing a fair amount of negative attention. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mario Diaz-Balart, Republican members of Congress, are specifically questioning the power couple’s visit.

Cuba’s tourism industry is wholly state-controlled; therefore, US dollars spent on Cuban tourism directly fund the machinery of oppression that brutally represses the Cuban people.

This was penned in a letter to the Obama administration. No word has since been let loose as of yet, on behalf of the president or Jay and Bey. Let us know what you guys think of the Carter’s trip and stay tuned for more.
