Time and time again we’ve seen the privileged offspring of Hollywood’s elite throw itself into the proverbial fire, sadly, with little regard for family name or legacy. We don’t get the feeling Jaden Smith is one of those kids. Though highly publicized stints with rapping and acting have been written off as young Smith following in the deeply-set footsteps of his dad, the audience should also be impressed with the 15-year-old. This might be the youngest person we’ve ever considered on Essentials, but a figure drawing book, mini Akai MPK player and vintage camera show a mature sense of creativity. To underline this, Smith works with friends Mateo, Moises, OmArr and Fawn to form MSFTSRep – a fashion collective working on its inaugural release this November. His personal style is more ‘New York cool’ than ‘Malibu posh,’ with the young artist opting for custom MSFTSRep jean jackets, A.P.C. denim and Warby Parker sunglasses. His music choice is represented by two classics – Bob Marley’s Legend and Wu-Tang Clan’s 36 Chambers – altogether emphasizing that Smith is a modern rendition of his old man, bringing ostensibly separate mindsets into harmony. Enjoy Jaden Smith’s Essentials above, and look for the MSFTSRep Holiday 2013 line to release in the coming weeks.
