Kendrick Lamar Speaks on “Backseat Freestyle” Video

Kendrick Lamar dropped his video for “Backseat Freestyle” a few days ago, and with many fans chiming in on their thoughts of “Sherane’s” guest appearance in the video, K. Dot takes a minute out to address the situation. Also revealing that it is in fact his real father on the phone during the video’s mini-skit, Kendrick also shares that female dancing on that car isn’t the actual Sherane. Catching up with MTV, he goes on to share:

It’s funny because it’s a weird thing when I go back to the neighborhood and the homeys know who I’m talking about. It be a big joke, and I’ve been hearing things that she’s more excited and surprised that I put her in the song more than anything,” Kendrick told MTV News on Saturday in New York. “That’s the funny part about it. It’s all love though. I ain’t got no ill will.
