The music industry has been shaken by some big news today. Veteran British singer David Bowie releases a new single on his 66th birthday, following years of absence from the scene. The single is called “Where Are We Now?” and launches the initiative for Bowie’s first album in nearly a decade, The Next Day. Produced by Tony Visconti and written by Bowie in New York, the offering also marks his 30th studio recording. Above you can watch the official video for “Where Are We Now?” which was directed by Tony Oursler, and highlights Bowie’s time spent in Berlin in the mid-late ’70s. A statement from his label Columbia says:
“Throwing shadows and avoiding the industry treadmill is very David Bowie despite his extraordinary track record that includes album sales in excess of 130m, not to mention his massive contributions in the area of art, fashion, style, sexual exploration, and social commentary.”
The Next Day is due in March.
