Sony has officially unveiled its latest mirrorless digital camera with the introduction of the NEX-5R. A compact design with DSLR functionality and APS-C-sized Exmor HD sensor, the NEX-5R boasts high quality 16.1 megapixel resolution alongside HD video recording in 1920 x 1080 resolution, at 60p, 60i or 24p frame rates. Offering Sony’s flexible E-mount system of interchangeable lenses for a bevy of options, the camera utilizes the Fast Hybrid AF system, integrating two separate systems for faster and more accurate focusing. Other notable functions include an articulating 3.0” LCD touchscreen with 921,600 dot resolution, as well as full Wi-Fi capabilities that make use of the PlayMemories app for both iOS- and Android-based mobile devices. Set to debut this October, the standalone Sony Alpha NEX-5R will retail for $650 USD or $750 USD when coupled with an 18-55mm lens.
