Known for their long history of producing sneakers that find such demand that individuals are willing to brave days and weeks sleeping in front of retailers, Nike is further distancing themselves from such activities with the recent news that they will no longer be having midnight releases for shoes. According to the Wall Street Journal, Nike will be employing this new rule for one of the more popular and pricey models in the future – the LeBron X – with retailers instructed to wait until 8 a.m. to start selling and posting photos and descriptions of the shoes until after the official launch. While this is aimed at curbing some of the violent and mob-like behavior in the past, others point that it’s an attempt to stop casual sneaker fans from trying to make a quick buck on a resell.
