While Alejandro Rodriquez might have mined a decidedly American landscape and ethos for his previous collection, for Spring/Summer 2013 the LA-based designer sojourns to Cuba for next season’s Beautiful Fül lookbook. The spring offerings are particularly multifaceted this time around, proving Rodriguez’s versatility and range of inspiration. A relaxed, Havana Club vibe is embodied by tailored suits lined with floral prints, paisley wovens and supple-skinned leather jackets, accessorized always with fine cigars, while a more serious, military aesthetic — caps, camouflage cargos and utility shirts — hints at something more dangerous beneath the Castro-chic surface. A finale of orange smoke screens and handguns confirms the notion that good clothing — and style — is not always fun and games. Look for the collection to become available closer to the beginning of next year online or at select retail locations.
