Yesterday we shared with you the portion of deceased Beastie Boys member Adam Yauch’s will, which prohibits any commercial use of the Beastie Boys’ music. Well, today it has been reported by SPIN Magazine that the section of Yauch’s will has been put to the test. Lawyers for the Beastie Boys are currently suing Monster Energy Drink for using the group’s music in promotional campaigns for their Ruckus In The Rockies event. The group also claim that Monster used their likenesses in a video on their website, which linked to a 23-minute “mega mix” made by DJ Z-Trip and includes 26 songs from the Beasties. The material is alleged to have gone up around May 9, which was only five days after Yauch’s death. A full detailed PDF file of the suit can viewed by clicking here.
