Known Gallery proudly presents Los Angeles-based graffiti artist Augustine Kofie in his first solo exhibition at the gallery–also his first solo Los Angeles show in over three years. The 30+ works showcased will include dense collage and assemblage on wood with yardstick framing, paintings on canvas, and hand-painted multiples. In keeping with Kofie’s unique style of intensely detailed architecture type “drafting,” these pieces recall classic typography as well as ’60s and ’70s iconography in harmony with more modern architectural trappings. Like fractured shards of a mirror, his shapes contradict and reflect off one another, creating varied perspective and movement akin to music. To confirm this notion that his art tends to music, the prolific artist has also produced his own 37-minute soundtrack for the collection using GarageBand, C, and the crates. The download is available here. “Working An Angle” opens May 26 with a special reception from 8-11 p.m. and runs through to June 9. In anticipation of the exhibition, photographer Todd Mazer was on hand to document some of the process and creative development of each piece.
