This has been long overdue. Public Enemy and N.W.A are among 15 artists and groups that comprise the list of 2013 nominees for the induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In order to be eligible for nomination, an artist or group had to release its first album or single at least 25 years ago. While the 2013 nominees issued their first recording no later than 1987. However, N.W.A’s first album was released in ’88, their first single “Panic Zone” came out a year earlier.

The list of nominees includes The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Deep Purple, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Albert King, Kraftwerk, The Marvelettes, The Meters, Randy Newman, N.W.A, Procol Harum, Public Enemy, Rush, and Donna Summer. Heart, Jett, and the Blackhearts and Summer were among the nominees in last year’s vote. Summer, who died in May, and Chic were also nominated in ’10.

Six-hundred artists, historians and members of the music industry vote in the annual election, which is now in its 28th year. A date has yet to be set for the announcement of the inductees. The annual induction ceremony will be held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on April 18, 2013. Cross your fingers.
