Converse announces the launch of its First String Standards Dr. J Pro Leather shoes featuring Horween Leather. Honoring the legend of Julius “Dr. J” Erving and the shoe he made history in, Converse recreates the classic silhouette in two all-new premium crafted versions using ultra-premium Horween Chomexcel® Leather from the legendary Chicago-based tannery. One of the oldest tanneries in the United States, Horween is widely known for its production of fine athletic leathers, including those used to create most basketballs used in professional games. Only 400 pairs will be produced in each color, with the black launching today and the burgundy in November 2011. Price is set at a reasonable $90 USD through select First String accounts, including Chicago’s own St. Alfred and Bodega in Boston.
