Apple Introduces OS X El Capitan

Today Apple kicked of its annual WWDC by introducing the last edition of OS X: El Capitan. An evolution of Yosemite, El Capitan largely focuses on changes to both user experience and performance with the likes of built-in apps and window management being the main focus. Users will now be able to use gestures within apps just as they do in iOS, swiping in, say, Mail to mark and delete emails. Safari has also been tweaked to offer “pinned” sites, which will load faster thanks to background refreshing while automatically opening in new tabs when clicked. El Capitan also boasts faster and more intuitive access to Mission control thanks to a three-finger swipe upwards while Mail now features a tabbed “Compose” window so users can more quickly draft and send emails. A splitscreen option is even possible now by dragging multiple windows onto the same desktop while additional features include a brand new Notes app and redesigned Disk Utility.

OS X El Capitan is now available in beta form for developers while a public beta is set for July. Expect the operating system to officially launch as a free upgrade this fall.
