The Otter Cove Residence by Sagan Piechota Architecture

Located on a rocky cove overlooking the ocean, the Otter Cove Residence designed by Sagan Piechota Architecture appears to be a natural extension of the surrounding landscape. This Carmel, California house is split into two wings, recessing the house into the site and locating almost half of it partially underground. The residence features also features a courtyard that was created as a result, with the eastern wing providing privacy from Highway One, while the western wing shields the ocean wind. These areas provide breathing space from the panoramic drama on the upper floor. Furthermore the residence only features walls where it’s absolutely necessary for privacy or structure, creating an open concept living space.
