Mattel Hover Board

I guess the time to sell is now for all Back to the Future II related memorabilia. Thanks to the media craze initiated by Nike with their Hyperdunk 2015, the days/weeks following its release saw an auction pop up for the Nike Mag (which ended at $5,300 USD) with its complimentary prop the Mattel Hover Board now also up for grabs on the internet auction block site eBay. However with $30,000 as the starting bid for this (obviously) unfunctional prop, it’s a steep price to pay. Unlike other props made of styrofoam which hasn’t passed the test of time, this Hover Board is made of wood and metal complete with a texturized paint job. I don’t see the skateboard being replaced seven years from now by a floating board though. See the a clip of the Hover Board in action after the jump.

That’s waaay too much for this prop. I mean, maybe for the sports almanac (That was a joke). Profiles in History is a very reputable movie/entertainment auction house, but I think they’re shitting the bed with thier starting price.

The Mattell Hover Board was banned by the FTC as unsafe in the 1960’s. Hover Board use magnets and Earth’s magnetic field to permanently levitate. I wish I could have talked my Mom into buying a couple of them before the U.S. Government banned the boards off the market! Universal Movie Studio’s might have the real things thus Back to the FutureII boards could still around?
