Charli XCX Releases A Deluxe Edition of 'BRAT' With Three New Songs
The new tracks bring yearning, lust and chaos to the critically acclaimed album.
After launching her BRAT album last week, Charli XCX has dropped the deluxe edition of the project, titled Brat and it’s the same but there’s three more songs so it’s not. As its title indicates, the deluxe edition adds three more songs to the tracklist. The new edition was teased through a TikTok livestream showing the BRAT mural in Bushwick, Brooklyn being painted over with the new album cover.
While the majority of BRAT is introspective and serious, the new tracks are more in line with its singles, which are fun and club-oriented.
All three tracks were teased beforehand with “Spring Breakers” generating anticipation due to Charli’s Boiler Room set. The deluxe tracks begin with “Hello goodbye,” which chronicles the clumsy nature of having a crush. If “Hello goodbye” shies away from confronting a potential lover, the next track “Guess” is unapologetically flirty and suggestive with lyrics like, “You wanna guess the colour of my underwear. You wanna know what I got going on down there.” The deluxe edition closes out with “Spring Breakers” which channels the energy of the 2012 A24 film of the same name by way of lyrics encouraging going buck wild and channeling chaotic Florida energy.
Brat was met with much fanfare upon release, and critical reception was also extremely positive as this release solidified Charli XCX as one of the top tastemakers in the hyperpop/dance field. She’s “your favorite reference baby.”
