Reflecting a rebellious and unapologetic attitude.

Following its collaboration with Small Talk Studio, New Delhi-based label Karu Research has just presented its Spring/Summer 2024 collection at Paris Fashion Week.

Founder Kartik Kumra constantly explores his Indian heritage through handmade menswear with enchanting backgrounds, seeing SS24 depict Indian masculinity through rebellious cultural figures. Kumra inspected the wardrobe of Maharaja of Indore, Yashwant Rao Holkar II. He often combined Eastern and Western attire through embroidered tailoring and rich craftsmanship. Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly was the designer’s second muse, channeling his unapologetic attitude across the collection.

Karu Research collaborated with several Himalayan organizations to create vegetable dyes and textured linens woven on sustainable handlooms, reflected on embellished uniforms, elegant suiting, and studded denim. Traditional Indian mosaics and floral illustrations are hand-embroidered onto linen shirting, fuzzy cardigans, and workwear jackets. Paint-splattered shirting accompanied pleated trousers and patchwork outerwear, complete with a cricket-inspired collaboration with Stepney Workers Club.

Take a closer look at Karu Research’s SS24 collection in the gallery above.
