In what was definitely a pleasant surprise on our end, HYPEBEAST has made it into the online pages of respected publication Time Magazine’s 50 Best Websites of 2008. The feature itself outlines a short-list of best websites from info & gossip, health, handy tools to hobbies and interests. Each site also has the ability to be rated by readers. However, at the end of the day, big thanks to all our readers. If you get a chance rate HYPEBEAST over at Time Magazine.
We had a random night on Wednesday as all of a sudden we found ourselves in a club with shorts and backpacks hanging out with former 106 & Park 7 week Champion Jin, and Taiwanese actor/artist Van Ness Wu. What kind of nerds go clubbing in backpacks? This week’s staff picks include the most hyped phone EVER, 3G iPhone, the latest from Converse, Shop Gentei’s ring with Garni and Eliminator’s take on a Fred Perry classic.
If you visit HYPEBEAST’s main page and especially its forums on a regular basis then chances are you are familiar with HUF sneaker and clothing store. The San Francisco shop has been a staple on the west coast for years, providing consumers with hard to find kicks and tees that was usually associated with east coast style. HYPEBEAST recently sat down with skateboard legend and HUF creator Keith Hufnagel in an interview that gets in-depth on the origins of Keith’s skating career, why he decided to open HUF originally and some inside information on his brand new shop opening in Los Angeles. The video features some, vintage photos, excellent footage of Keith shredding the urban terrain on his skateboard as well as some shots of the HUF store. It’s been raining like crazy the last few days, really puts a damper mood on everything. However, we’d had the privilege being graced by a new regular fixture at the office in Jefford. At the tender age of 19, he’s become the new office whipping boy/un-official intern and claimed the title of undisputed HYPEBEAST of the office. This week we bring you our top pics of the week including Paul Smith’s latest watch collection, WTAPS tees, Nas’ upcoming album and the Eliminator x Michael Linnell Mega Messenger Bag.
A fruitful week has come to a close. This week was marked by a more than average amount of events going down thrown in commemoration of upcoming Diesel and Coach stores opening new retail locations in Hong Kong. Personal highlight was probably the chance to meet a living legend in Stussy founder Shawn Stussy and hear him talk so candidly about his experiences with many influential people of today and laying the brickwork to what is before us now. All this based on the creation of an innocent brand at a time when there was no designation or classification for what Stussy represented. This week’s staff picks includes choices such as the Perspective chair, FUCT x Zippo Japan lighter and COMME des GARCON wallets.
Only a few short weeks ago, China’s Sichuan area endured one of the nation’s most catastrophic natural disasters in history. More then 60,000 people have succumbed to the unfortunate events that took place on May 12th. Despite being almost a thousand miles away in Beijing at the time, the aftershocks of the earthquake itself were felt and would be a preview of the unfortunate incident that has claimed the lives of so many innocent citizens. Within the masses of fallen lie numerous children and young adults which unfortunately will never be afforded the same opportunities and chances many of us take for granted. Collaborating with Singaporean brand Flesh Imp, we have chosen to remember the youth and their premature passing in the creation of our “Lost Youth” t-shirt. The design represents the brightly lit path of the youth which was so violently removed as it slowly fades out.
With hopes of raising $5,000 USD, we hope you take the opportunity to purchase a shirt in which proceeds will be donated directly to the Sichuan Earthquake cause. The t-shirts are available for sale now with a price of $45 USD shipped worldwide (however faster shipping methods are also available). All questions should be addressed to sales@fleshimp.com. The only accepted form of international payment is Paypal, sizing includes XS – L. For information on sizing please refer here.
