Description

James Carnes is the Global Creative Director for Sport Performance Design at adidas. Having obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in Industrial Design from the University of Michigan in 1995, Carnes joined adidas soon after, subsequently developing the original prototype for Feet You Wear, which was released in 1996. Over his two decade-long career at adidas, Carnes has been instrumental in the development of ClimaCool and adiZero technology. More recently, Carnes was responsible for the launches of notable sportswear innovations such as Springblade and Boost technology, as well as designing the official 2014 FIFA World Cup ball, the Brazuca. Having cited the likes of Zaha Hadid, the Bouroullec brothers and Tom Ford as his inspirations, Carnes heads a 250-strong international design team, and lives and works in both Portland, Oregon, and the adidas hometown of Herzogenaurach, Germany.
