It didn’t take long for KAWS to make a splash in 2019 with the artist announcing his massive ‘KAWS:HOLIDAY’ outdoor project in Taipei. The traveling installation also made its way to Art Basel Hong Kong 2019 and more recently at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan. Throughout the global project, the artist announced merchandise collaborations with the likes of allrightsreserved and Herschel Supply. Underlining KAWS’ year are a slew of ‘Companion’ and ‘BFF’ editions with the most recent release surrounding the artist’s ‘GONE’ vinyl figures in black and pink/grey for his extensive exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia. Coinciding with the aforesaid show is KAWS’ “BLACKOUT” exhibition to land in Skarskedt Gallery this October where the artist will present a range of new works, including sculptures and paintings featuring his ubiquitous motifs. One of the more standout stories surrounding KAWS this year was his exit from Galerie Perrotin in July, with Skarstedt now being the sole gallery to represent the world-renowned artist.
