Apple Original Films has officially debuted the first trailer for its highly anticipated Cold War action-comedy, Mayday. The star-studded project, produced in collaboration with Skydance Media and Maximum Effort, is slated to premiere directly on Apple TV this fall, promising a genre-bending buddy comedy that flips the classic spy thriller format.
The film follows Lieutenant Troy “Assassin” Kelly (played by Ryan Reynolds), a hotshot U.S. Navy pilot who finds himself stranded behind enemy lines in Russian territory during the height of the Cold War after his top-secret mission implodes. Troy is soon discovered by Nikolai Ustinov (played by Kenneth Branagh), a gruff former KGB agent who harbors an unexpected obsession with American pop culture. Rather than turning him in, Ustinov nurses the pilot back to health, leading to an unlikely alliance as the duo attempts to survive.
Writers and directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein bring their signature comedic style to the feature, following up their previous hits Game Night and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. The ensemble cast also stars Maria Bakalova, Marcin Dorociński, and David Morse.
Mayday is scheduled to premiere globally on Apple TV on September 4, 2026.
