Zenith has officially unveiled two bold additions to its high-performance chronograph lineup: the DEFY Extreme Lapis Lazuli II and the DEFY Extreme Ultraviolet.
The DEFY Extreme Lapis Lazuli II reinterprets the earlier steel and gold edition with a forged carbon and titanium case, limited to 50 pieces. Its openworked dial integrates vivid lapis lazuli counters, where natural pyrite inclusions create golden reflections against the stealth‑like matte surfaces. Priced at $37,100 USD, the watch underscores Zenith’s commitment to blending natural artistry with technical innovation.
As for the DEFY Extreme Ultraviolet, the timepiece takes inspiration from one of the most intense regions of the light spectrum, pairing a matte microblasted titanium case with violet‑tinted sapphire elements and subdials. Its angular 45mm case emphasizes geometry and light absorption, while the violet accents extend to the star‑shaped oscillating weight visible through the caseback. Delivered with a violet rubber strap, titanium bracelet, and Velcro option, the model highlights versatility alongside its striking aesthetic. Retailing at $20,100 USD, it offers a more accessible entry point into Zenith’s high‑frequency chronograph universe.
At the core of both timepieces beats the chronometer-certified El Primero 9004 automatic movement, a legendary caliber featuring two independent escapements. The first escapement operates at a standard 5 Hz (36,000 VpH) to govern everyday timekeeping with a 50-hour power reserve. The second escapement operates at an astonishing 360,000 vph, specifically to run the 1/100th-of-a-second chronograph module. This remarkable frequency drives the central chronograph hand through one lightning-fast full rotation every second, making hyper-precise intervals instinctively readable. Visible through the sapphire crystal casebacks, the star-shaped oscillating weight is customized to match each theme, featuring a sleek satin finish for the Lapis Lazuli II and a vibrant violet coating for the Ultraviolet model. Both models are now available through Zenith’s website and physical boutiques.
