Hulu is reviving one of the most beloved sitcoms of the early 2000s with the official trailer drop for Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair. Arriving nearly two decades after the original series finale, the new four-part limited event promises to thrust audiences right back into the familiar, chaotic dynamic of the fan-favorite family.
The upcoming revival picks up more than a decade after the original timeline, following a grown-up Malcolm, once again played by Frankie Muniz. Having successfully distanced himself from his deeply dysfunctional relatives, Malcolm now lives a peaceful and “fantastic” life alongside his daughter. However, the tranquility is abruptly shattered when his parents, Hal and Lois—reprised by Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek—demand his attendance at their 40th wedding anniversary celebration.
Fans of the classic Fox run will recognize several returning faces in the new footage. Justin Berfield and Christopher Masterson are officially set to return as Reese and Francis, while Emy Coligado reprises her role as Piama. Due to original actor Erik Per Sullivan retiring from acting, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark has been recast to take over the role of the musically gifted Dewey. Original series creator Linwood Boomer returns as writer and executive producer, with Ken Kwapis stepping in to direct all four episodes of the miniseries.
Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair drops April 10, 2026 via Hulu and Disney+.
