Years after their first collaborative variants of the Stan Smith, Fucking Awesome and adidas Originals are reprising the skate brand’s version of the classic shoe.
The latest iteration of Fucking Awesome’s Stan Smith relies on a monochromatic black design from the uppers, laces and soles. The crackled leather uppers give the pair a worn-in vintage feel, while Fucking Awesome’s patinated metal emblem is showcased on the lateral panel, much like the previous pairs.
While all-black sneakers may have been humorously stigmatized by all-black AF1 memes in recent years, the monochromatic color treatment is seeing new life in the current zeitgeist. Arriving as stealthy, often elevated wardrobe essentials, sneaker purveyors from adidas, Nike, ASICS, New Balance, and more are dipping their toes back into all-black territory. adidas’s recent Gazelle Indoor Made in Italy edition is another recent all-black model from the brand, which utilizes fine Italian leather and formal soles.
The all-black trend could be partially be driven by the burgeoning loafer trend taking over the industry, leading casual footwear purveyors to release their own loafer-inspired silhouettes. Recent examples include Converse’s Coupe GB Loafer and HOKA’s speed loafer.
