NEIGHBORHOOD has announced an inaugural collaboration with heritage Japanese footwear brand REGAL Shoe & Co. Reinterpreting the 1880-born manufacturer’s “Saddle Shoe Last” model, the collaborators have given the pair a textured make-up and a ton of technical details making for a reliable, yet elegant loafer.
The uppers are composed of alternating smooth and full-grain leather for a unique monochrome tonal effect. At the leather heel backs, Neighborhood’s word mark is laser-engraved on the lateral side, while the Regal Shoe & Co logo appears on the medial side. Additionally, the bolded NEIGHBORHOOD logo is featured on the lateral tab, while a GORE-TEX tab is shown on the medial side.
GORE-TEX fabric lines the interior, offering water-resistance and supreme durability. On the bottoms, Vibram NewFlex-equipped lug soles offer reliable grip, while Ortholite materials add comfortable cushioning to the wearer’s feet. Last, but not least, REGAL Shoe & Co. specializes in Goodyear welt construction, a traditional method allowing owners to resole their shoes as needed. For a touch of tradition an aged bronze coin is placed in the slit of the saddle above the toe box.
The pair joins the recent wave of hybrid loafers flooding the footwear market, imbuing traditional loafer designs with sneaker details and technical features. At the forefront of the trend is New Balance‘s 1906L loafers, which have been rolled out in various colors and materials from mesh to suede. Yesterday, Converse unveiled a flat-soled Coupe GB Loafer and in January HOKA launched its chunky Speed Loafer.
At $624 USD, the NEIGHBORHOOD x REGAL Shoe & Co. loafers will be released at the NEIGHBROHOOD web store on March 15 at 12 pm.
