Rei Kawakubo has made Paris Fashion Week her own, returning to the runway for another unmatched spectacle. The Japanese designer presented her Fall/Winter 2025 collection for COMME des GARÇONS, pushing the boundaries of fashion as an art form. Through voluminous and abstract silhouettes, Kawakubo proved she is a sculptural master. More is always more at COMME des GARÇONS, verified through a wealthy standing ovation before leaving viewers in awe.

With 20 dramatic looks, Kawakubo played with bold structures, intense layering, and geometric shapes to build singular art pieces. Angelic Japanese vocals filled the industrial building located in Paris’ Opéra neighborhood, lined with simple wooden chairs and a plain white runway. Kawakubo lets the clothes speak for itself, as always, leaving theatrical presentations behind.

The first look presented pinstriped fabrics manipulated into flowing ruffles, giving the impression of moving water. Abstract shapes came to life in look two, presenting a geometric gown accessorized with an exaggerated wide-brimmed hat. Checkered suiting was pulled to the side and left floating in the air, while velvet tops were layered on a boxing-style silhouette with coordinating gloves. Black and white plaid swallowed a ballooning gown in look nine brightened with red tulle underpinnings. Florals, stripes, and irregular shapes complemented additional designs, each completed with sizable headgear in remarkable proportions.
