Celebrating a decade-long friendship, Norwegian jewelry brand Tom Wood has tapped Japanese fashion icon Kozue Akimoto for its latest collaboration. Titled “Chiyu,” the rings evoke feelings of protection, bandaging, and armor.

After breaking her finger, designer Mona Jensen wanted to explore ideas of renewal through her jewelry. Kozue Akimoto explained in a statement, “The original idea came from healing an injury which is why we decided on chiyu as the name of the project. It means healing, treatment and recovery from an injury. But it can also mean regeneration and renewal, the improvement of something old.”

The Chiyu rings are available in multiple widths and are designed to be worn across both the lower and upper parts of the finger. The stacked rings represent where a bandaid or brace might fall naturally on an injured hand.

The collaboration also emphasizes Tom Wood’s commitment to sustainable sourcing and production. Made entirely of recycled materials, the ring supports a 90% decrease in carbon footprint compared to that of virgin material-made products. The brand exclusively partnered with RJC-certified manufacturers in order to uphold the highest standards of ethical production.

Check out photos from the collection’s lookbook in the gallery above. The Chiyu rings are available now at Tom Wood retailers and online. For Japan and South Korea, the rings will be launching on March 14.
