The Voidz, led by The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas, have shared a new single, “Did My Best.” Produced by Mac DeMarco, the track follows “The Eternal Tao” from May and is the second song produced by the independent Canadian rocker.

In a quick interview with Rolling Stone, Casablancas revealed that “Did My Best” was partly inspired by Algerian street vendors in Paris and the Auto-Tuned Arabic music they listened to while selling tourist memorabilia on the street. “That seeped into my subconscious,” he said. The song began to form once the frontman acquired an Auto-Tune pedal, with Casablancas explaining, “In Indian music and Middle Eastern music, they use more notes [than in Western music]. But the truth is, those notes are secretly in Western music. … When you do a melody with Auto-Tune, it’s almost a different melody. Ten percent of the melodies jump off to a new level with Auto-Tune. It’s a whole other level of harmony.”

The Voidz have also shared a double-header music feature for the single that sees the band entertaining blow up dolls and performing with vintage neon-lit outfits. DeMarco and Kirin J. Cillinan also appear in the visual which ends with Casablancas repeating the line “I can only change what I can change,” a phrase that is heavily featured on “The Eternal Tao.”
