Ulysse Nardin Gives the Freak [ONE] Blue Enamel and Guilloché Dial Finishes

Ulysse Nardin is extending the Freak [ONE] with two limited-edition interpretations that bring traditional decorative crafts into one of the manufacture’s most unconventional mechanical platforms. The Freak [ONE BLUE ENAMEL] and Freak [ONE GUILLOCHÉ] arrive as Ulysse Nardin marks both its 180th anniversary and 25 years since the original Freak debuted in 2001.

Of the pair, the Freak [ONE BLUE ENAMEL] places the emphasis on color and métiers d’art. For the first time, the Freak [ONE] is housed in a full 44mm titanium case, framing a white-gold hour disc engraved with a radiating sunray pattern and covered by hand in vivid blue enamel at Ulysse Nardin’s Donzé Cadrans atelier. The enamel is applied in successive layers and fired at approximately 800°C before being polished, creating a saturated surface that accentuates the movement’s rotating flying carousel. By comparison, the Freak [ONE GUILLOCHÉ] adopts a more restrained palette, with its hour disc decorated in a traditional diamond-pattern “maille” motif. The original pattern is created by hand before being transferred to the production discs using the traditional flinqué stamping process, then finished in a sand-toned CVD treatment that contrasts with the light-grey titanium case. The Blue Enamel is paired with a white ballistic-textured rubber strap, while the Guilloché receives a matching grey version.

Both watches retain the Freak [ONE]’s UN-240 automatic calibre, whose flying carousel completes one revolution every 60 minutes to indicate the minutes, while the rotating hour disc makes one full turn every 12 hours. Approximately 95% of the movement’s components are designed to move, with its 229-part construction incorporating a silicon oversized balance wheel and hairspring, a DIAMonSIL escapement and Ulysse Nardin’s patented Grinder automatic winding system, delivering a 90-hour power reserve. Time is adjusted through the bidirectional bezel rather than a conventional crown, while the 2026 editions introduce a subtly softened bezel profile inspired by the [Super] Freak.
