Netflix has officially released the first trailer for Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, the fourth chapter in Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s anthology drama series.The eight-episode season stars Ella Beatty in the title role alongside Rebecca Hall and Charlie Hunnam.
Set in late 19th-century New England, the plot centers on Lizzie Borden (Beatty), a 32-year-old Sunday school teacher suspected of executing the 1893 axe murders of her father, Andrew Borden (Hunnam), and stepmother, Abby Borden (Hall). The narrative explores the repressed dynamics inside the wealthy family’s home, following Borden and her rebellious maid as they navigate a household built on humiliation before the gruesome, unsolved murders occur.
The ensemble cast also features Billie Lourd, Joey Pollari, Sarah Paulson, and Jessica Barden. Co-created and written by Brennan alongside Murphy, the production is directed by Max Winkler and Sarah Adina Smith. Executive producers include Winkler, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Louise Shore, Nissa Diederich, Todd Kubrak, Carl Franklin, and Tanasa Popa.
Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story arrives on Netflix on September 17.
