Crunchyroll has officially secured the worldwide distribution rights (excluding Asia, with the exception of India) for Makoto Shinkai‘s highly anticipated upcoming feature film. Partnering once again with Sony Pictures Entertainment, the deal ensures that Shinkai’s latest work will reach audiences worldwide through Crunchyroll’s platform, continuing the distributor’s strategy of spotlighting high‑profile anime films.

Shinkai, known for acclaimed titles such as Your Name, Weathering With You and Suzume, has built a reputation for blending emotional storytelling with visually stunning animation. His new project is expected to follow in that tradition, offering another deeply resonant narrative that connects personal relationships with larger, fantastical themes. While plot details, official character designs, title and a firm release window remain strictly under wraps, the partnership marks a natural continuation of their successful distribution relationship following Suzume, the director’s previous animated feature from 2022.
