The acclaimed stage play adaptation of Spirited Away has announced a world tour running from 2026 to 2028. Originally debuting to massive success in Japan in 2022 before expanding to a record-breaking, award-winning engagement at the London Coliseum in 2024, the highly theatrical production is set to bring its breathtaking staging to diverse global audiences.
Since its debut, the play has been praised for its inventive staging and faithful recreation of Studio Ghibli’s visual magic. Co-adapted by Maoko Imai and helmed by Tony and Olivier Award-winning director John Caird — celebrated for his landmark work on Les Misérables — the live performance utilizes remarkable puppetry and elaborate set designs to capture the surreal wonder of Hayao Miyazaki’s legendary, Oscar-winning animated feature.
The world tour is slated to begin at the National Theater in Taipei, Taiwan, running from December 16, 2026 through January 31, 2027. Following its stay in Taipei, the production will return home to Tokyo, Japan, for a limited engagement from March to May 2027 before crossing the Atlantic to Canada, where it will occupy Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre from May 6 to August 15, 2027. The tour then makes its highly anticipated US debut at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, California, from September 2 to October 24, 2027. The multi-year international journey will culminate in March 2028, when the show returns to the UK for an encore run at the London Coliseum.
