Summary

Casa Batlló Contemporary and Fundació Joan Miró present 'Gaudí-Miró-Gomis: Deconstructed' in Barcelona through January 2027.

The show pairs Miró’s sculptures and Gomis’s photography with an immersive regional soundscape.

Tomorrow Bureau utilizes advanced digital archaeology to reframe these historical Catalan archives.

Hosted inside Antoni Gaudí’s architectural masterpiece, Casa Batlló, in Barcelona, the exhibition Gaudí-Miró-Gomis: Deconstructed has been unveiled. Curated by Joana Seguro and Ester Ramos, the show situates Gaudí’s architectural legacy in dialogue with Miró’s sculptural and graphic works and Gomis’s photographic interpretations, offering fresh perspectives on their shared cultural environment.

This major presentation forms a key part of the region’s Gaudi Year 2026 celebrations. It explores the multi-generational creative connections and cultural dialogue between three of Catalonia’s most influential figures: the pioneering architect Antoni Gaudí, the legendary master artist Joan Miró and the prominent photographer Joaquim Gomis. By fusing sculpture, historical photography and cutting-edge audio-visual technology, the curation moves beyond simple chronology to reveal their shared affinity for the Catalan landscape, nature, and material experimentation.

A central highlight of the exhibition is its focus on original works by Joan Miró that directly reflect Gaudí’s lasting influence on his practice. Notable among these is “The Warrior (1970),” a bronze sculpture that mimics Gaudí’s structural approaches through its unique assemblage of natural forms, presented alongside selected engravings from Miró’s “Gaudí Series (1979).” These physical works are paired with an extensive archival selection of photographs by Joaquim Gomis, whose documentation historically played a vital role in the modern interpretation and international dissemination of Gaudí’s architecture. Mirroring these historical works is an immersive, localized soundscape composed entirely from field recordings captured across Catalonia, grounding the entire gallery environment in the artists’ native terrain.

Crucial to the exhibition’s contemporary framework is a series of newly commissioned digital installations by the creative studio Tomorrow Bureau, built around a conceptual methodology they call “digital archaeology”. By combining archival material with cutting‑edge technologies, it uncovers hidden details and proposes new readings of the artists’ relationship — one that transcends chronology to emphasize shared themes of nature, materiality, experimentation, and spirituality. As the second major exhibition in Casa Batlló Contemporary’s program, following Beyond the Façade earlier in 2026, it reinforces the institution’s role as a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue between Gaudí’s radical legacy and contemporary creation.

Gaudí-Miró-Gomis: Deconstructed will remain at Casa Batlló and will remain on view until January, 2027.
