A24 has officially announced the winter theatrical release schedule for director Jesse Eisenberg’s highly anticipated comedy feature, The Debut. Moving into the prime holiday movie corridor, the independent entertainment studio will debut the project in select theaters in early December before executing a wider commercial expansion.
Written and directed by Eisenberg, the film centers on a timid, anxious woman portrayed by Julianne Moore who is unexpectedly cast in an original community theater musical. Her character quickly falls under the intense, psychological spell of a domineering local theater director, played by Paul Giamatti, who is described as a brilliant but fiercely intimidating figure in the New Jersey creative scene. As the production progresses from chaotic rehearsals toward its official opening night, the narrative explores the fine lines dividing artistic dedication, delusional ambition, and local community eccentricities.
The star-studded ensemble features supporting performances from Halle Bailey, Bernadette Peters, Havana Rose Liu, Colton Ryan, and Lilli Cooper. The project is produced by Eisenberg alongside Emma Stone, Dave McCary, and Ali Herting under their respective production frameworks, following up on the critical acclaim of Eisenberg’s sophomore directorial film, A Real Pain.
The Debut arrives in select theaters on December 11, 2026, followed by a wide nationwide release on Christmas Day.
