From new gaming updates to global events, here’s how the popular game is fostering a deeper human connection.

With more than one billion downloads (and counting), PUBG MOBILE has grown beyond the boundaries of a traditional battle royale game to become one of the biggest mobile games globally. Every update is anticipated by tens of millions of daily active users, while new collaborations with brands such as Balenciaga, Porsche and more set out to bridge the gap between the digital world and physical experiences, bringing in even more gamers to its ranks.

This year, PUBG MOBILE continues to build on the momentum through its eighth anniversary – a rare feat in today’s fast-moving gaming landscape. Launching innovative gameplay, large-scale collaborations, and a series of global offline events, it is focused on creating a wider ecosystem that encourages players to interact, participate and connect in new ways.

A major part of its evolution comes from constantly introducing new in-game experiences. Transporting players into entirely new worlds, themes have been responsible for bringing cinematic environments, evolving mechanics and unexpected encounters that reshape the pace of battle royale gameplay. Elsewhere, World of Wonder (WoW), the game’s expansive user-generated content platform, hands creative control to players themselves, allowing communities to build custom maps, experiment with new modes and transform PUBG MOBILE into a growing social playground.

At the same time, the game continues to collaborate with globally recognized names across fashion, entertainment and lifestyle such as from Dragon Ball Super and BLACKPINK, positioning the game within wider cultural conversations while expanding on how players experience the world of PUBG MOBILE beyond gameplay itself.

“Over the years, one thing that we have always believed in is to [make time] to listen to our players,” shares Rick Li, Producer of PUBG MOBILE and Deputy General Manager of Quantum Studio, LightSpeed Studios and Tencent Games, as he discusses the latest updates with Hypebeast. “A lot of players in our community often say that they want to relive the themes and battles that they enjoyed playing with on PUBG MOBILE before.”

While preserving the authentic battle royale format that longtime players know and love, PUBG MOBILE has offered a more layered experience shaped by the interests of its global player base. Li adds, “We have a large player group with different backgrounds who have different demands on content. By providing diverse themed gameplays that expand beyond traditional battle royale gameplay, we can bring different cultural experiences and adventure stories to our players,”

As well as launching collaborations with figures and brands including MrBeast and an upcoming partnership with Ferrari, PUBG MOBILE hopes to extend its presence into the real world with large-scale fan experiences. Following last year’s PUBG MOBILE Global Championship celebrations in Bangkok, this year’s Eighth Anniversary Carnival took over the Pyramids of Giza with a multi-sensory showcase featuring artists including Wegz, Mayyas and Mahmut Orhan. These offline experiences bring together live music, immersive experiences and gaming fandom in a way that feels closer to a festival than a traditional esports event.

For Vincent Wang, General Manager of Tencent Group and Head of PUBG MOBILE Publishing, it’s not just gameplay, but large-scale global experiences that have become central to the game’s long-term evolution. As digital experiences increasingly intersect with real-world culture, Wang sees PUBG MOBILE’s future as one rooted equally in gameplay and physical interaction. “Being evergreen is important to us because we hope to build a more open platform, developing it for years to come. We don’t want to do things in silo, so all of our campaigns connect the digital world and the physical world.”

“In this post-pandemic world, we notice more than ever that people yearn for real-life connections,” reflects Wang. “Our eighth anniversary celebrations are a prime example of how we’re bringing players together across the world. Moving forward, our goal is to continue creating meaningful connections and delivering a positive impact to our growing global community.”
