The NBA is saying goodbye to one of its most respected and relentless enforcers. PJ Tucker has officially announced his retirement from basketball, bringing a close to an incredible journey that spanned 14 NBA seasons and multiple stints playing professionally overseas. Known for his unwavering grit, physical toughness, and elite corner three-point shooting, the 41-year-old veteran leaves behind a legacy as the quintessential, team-first role player that every championship contender desperately needed.

Tucker’s path to NBA success was far from conventional. Drafted in the second round out of the University of Texas in 2006, he spent his early years proving himself in international leagues before firmly solidifying his place in the NBA. Once he found his footing, he quickly became a highly coveted asset for playoff-bound franchises, making significant impacts for teams like the Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, and Los Angeles Clippers.

His defining career moment arrived during the 2020-21 season. Joining the Milwaukee Bucks mid-season, Tucker served as the squad’s defensive anchor and emotional leader. His physical defense against the league’s top superstars in the playoffs was a crucial piece of the puzzle that ultimately helped the Bucks secure the NBA Championship. Tucker last appeared on the court during the 2024-25 campaign, logging three games for the New York Knicks before entering free agency.

Finishing his NBA journey with 886 regular-season games under his belt, Tucker’s true impact always extended far beyond the box score. He will be remembered not just as the undisputed sneaker king of the NBA, but as a relentless competitor who proved that heart, hustle, and defensive tenacity can carve out an unforgettable championship legacy.
