Reversible by design, eYe Junya Watanabe combines the historic MA-1 flight jacket with a vintage jean jacket.
Summary
-
eYe Junya Watanabe MAN reinterprets the Alpha Industries MA-1 as a reversible denim-trucker hybrid. The Japanese-made design blends olive flight nylon with washed denim, featuring deconstructed orange stitching and classic military utility.

This collaboration continues Watanabe’s signature “hybrid” aesthetic, merging Alpha Industries’ 20th-century wartime heritage with modern, deconstructed functionality.
eYe Junya Watanabe MAN put an innovative spin on Alpha Industries‘ signature MA-1 bomber jacket, combining the classic military silhouette with a denim trucker jacket.
Shifting from the original flight nylon to a washed denim, the latest garment from the collaborators is reversible by design. Worn with the olive green flight nylon out, the piece maintains original details, including the arm pockets, waist pockets, and the red Alpha Industries zipper tag on the right arm. However, the denim interior fabric is used to accent the collar, placket, cuffs, and waistband. Worn with the denim side out, small panels of orange lining fabric boast inside-out stitching for a deconstructed look.
According to Alpha Industries, the first flight jacket, the A-1, was introduced by the US military after WWI in 1927; however, it wasn’t until the 1960s that the company began producing bomber jackets for the US government. The later B-15 design, used in WWII, is the true blueprint for what would become Alpha Industries’ MA-1. First made in blue, the MA-1 was issued in the current olive green during the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Junya Watanabe and Alpha Industries have produced multiple releases surrounding their historic designs, including a tailored rework of the WO-J904 Biker Jacket from 2025. Watanabe’s Alpha Industries collaborations complement the Japanese designer’s deconstructed aesthetic, which also played a role in other hybrid garment collabs with Carhartt and the North Face in recent years.
Made in Japan, limited quantities of the eye Junya Watanabe Man x Alpha Industries MA-1 jacket are available in-store at Alpha Industries and online.
