At Watches and Wonders 2026, A. Lange & Söhne continues to assert its dominance in the realm of Saxon precision, bridging a 181-year legacy with a bold, contemporary vision, where artisanal virtuosity and mechanical complexity wholly coexist. This year’s novelties see the brand push its “Lumen” series into the upper echelons of complication while simultaneously offering a lesson in the power of restraint through the Saxonia family.
Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar “Lumen”
Building on the luminous legacy that saw the Datograph “Lumen” take center stage in Watches and Wonders 2026, the new Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar “Lumen” serves as a radiant apex for the brand’s most recognizable silhouette. For the first time, the Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon – originally spotlighted in traditional metals in prior Geneva editions – receives the “Lumen” treatment, limited to an exclusive run of just 50 pieces in platinum. The reference itself is a study in transparency, utilizing a semi-transparent sapphire dial that permits UV light to charge the luminous compound on the underlying mechanisms. This architecture allows the instantaneously switching outsize date and the peripheral month ring to glow with a spectral green intensity in the dark. Technical brilliance manifests in the dial’s isosceles triangle configuration, connecting the retrograde day-of-week display, seconds and a moonphase display that premieres an integrated day/night indication.
Flip the 41.9mm case over to reveal the self-winding Manufacture caliber L225.1, a 685-part masterpiece that features a unidirectional central rotor crafted from 18k white gold and 950 platinum. The movement is a treasure trove of artisanal finish, notably the filigreed tourbillon carriage and intermediate-wheel cock, both rendered in steel and treated with a mirror-like black polish. The tourbillon is further adorned with hand-engraved stars and a shooting star, adding a narrative of celestial precision. This grand complication also features a patented stop-seconds mechanism, allowing the wearer to halt the tourbillon at will and set the time with one-second accuracy. The Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar “Lumen” is a limited edition of 50 watches, with pricing available upon request.
Saxonia Annual Calendar
While the Lange 1 “Lumen” captures the limelight with its glow, the new Saxonia Annual Calendar offers a masterclass in understated elegance and technical finesse. Re-imagined with a more compact 36mm case, this edition feels significantly more tailored than previous iterations, allowing it to slip effortlessly under a shirt cuff while maintaining a presence that is quintessentially Saxon. Offered in white gold with an argenté dial and pink gold with a contrasting grey face, the watch focuses on superb legibility through its lancet-shaped hands and redesigned baton appliques, which now terminate in pyramid-like facets. The dial configuration is a triumph of lucid design, organizing auxiliary displays for the day, month, and moon phase into a harmonious, three-dimensional landscape.
Powering this stylish companion is the new self-winding Manufacture caliber L207.1, which boasts a 60-hour power reserve and a moon-phase display accurate to 122.6 years. The lunar disc itself is a work of art; treated with a deep-blue coating and peppered with 428 hand-rendered stars, it creates a miniaturized image of the Milky Way. True to the Royal Saxon roots of the manufacture, the movement is assembled twice and features traditional elements like a hand-engraved balance cock visible through the sapphire-crystal caseback. Whether collectively advanced via the convenient pusher at 10 o’clock or adjusted individually, the annual calendar mechanism automatically recognizes months with 30 and 31 days, requiring only a single manual correction at the transition to March.
